M. Margo Wheeler is leaving her job as director of planning and urban design in Monterey Park to become director of development for the city of Pomona, effective Dec. 31.
Wheeler, 36, said the new position is a career advancement, giving her charge of a department in a city nearly twice the size of Monterey Park and at a time when Pomona is hoping to attract major new development projects. She will oversee Pomona's planning, building, code enforcement and housing programs.
The City Council this week confirmed the appointment of Wheeler as recommended by City Administrator Julio Fuentes. Her salary was set at $75,000 annually, plus the use of a city car.
