The Saddleback Community College District will spend $18,700 this year to dispose of hazardous waste produced on its two campuses, under an agreement recently signed with an Upland firm.

Disposal Control Service Inc. was the low bidder for the contract, which includes hauling away science department wastes and other toxic items produced at Saddleback and Irvine Valley colleges.

"We have many different hazardous materials at our sites, most of which are not that toxic," said David Hill, the district's director of facilities maintenance and service. "For example, we have chemicals from the chem labs, animal specimens that are in formaldehyde from biology . . . and other substances like gasoline or oil."
