4 Cities Share Cost of Narcotics Copter

December 23, 1990

Four Southeast-area cities have started using a helicopter to track down narcotics traffickers.

Huntington Park, South Gate, Bell and Maywood are contributing about $18,000 each to lease a helicopter for the six-month program, officials said. A Huntington Park police sergeant is piloting the aircraft.

Detectives from all four cities participate in the aerial program and are known as the Southeast Area Narcotics Enforcement Team. The helicopter will be used about 20 hours a week. If successful, the cities may continue the program, officials said.
