Our readers wrote letters throughout 1990 expressing their viewpoints on a variety of issues. Here are condensed versions of some of those letters to help us remember the events that mattered to Orange County readers this past year. We would like to thank the readers who took the time to share their viewpoints and look forward to hearing from them and others in 1991. : We Shouldn't Pass the Buck on Poor

December 30, 1990

The "me" syndrome of the 1980s that was advocated by former President Ronald Reagan is reflected in the attitude of those opposing the SOS (Share Our Selves) distribution center.

If we can put it in someone else's back yard, then we don't have to be reminded that, in spite of the immense wealth accumulated by some people during the past 10 years, there are more people, including children, who are starving than possibly at any time in our history.

Can the rich continue to close their hearts and eyes and just say "no, not in our back yard"? It's time to extend a helping hand to those less fortunate than we.
