1990 in Review : Hollywood : Merchants Donate to Police Bike Patrol

December 30, 1990

A fledgling police bike patrol program in Hollywood has received a boost from local merchants and property owners, who have contributed more than $17,000 to the program.

The contributions, raised at a December fund-raiser, will go toward buying bikes, outfits and other gear for the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollywood Division bike patrol unit.

The donations will provide funds for at least 14 members of the unit to pedal on and around Hollywood Boulevard at least five nights a week, according to Nina Greenberg, a consultant to area merchants.

A similar program is under way in West Hollywood and other parts of the Westside.
