RECORD RACK

January 06, 1991|STEVE HOCHMAN

*** Redd Kross, "Third Eye," Atlantic. Songs titled "Bubblegum Factory" and "1976," Susan Cowsill singing background vocals . . . . Wo could it be but L.A.'s Redd Kross, worshipers at the altar of the '70s and devotees of the prophets Partridge, Brady and KISS? OK, it could be Jellyfish, but the brothers McDonald and co-conspirator Robert Hecker did it first and still do it better. Of course it's a joke, but a good one, avoiding easy targets and rockin' all the way home.
