County Should Do Wilderness Job Right, Quit Calling People Eco-Freaks

January 13, 1991

Regarding the suit filed by the Audubon Society and Ray Chandos against the Santa Margarita Co. over Las Flores ("Suit Seeks to Halt Wilderness Area Plan," Jan. 4), I say hooray for the Audubon Society and Chandos, who recognize that the human environment is like a priceless painting: human life the canvas and the environment the frame.

We in Orange County can frame our existence with all things man-made or we can demand an end to this mediocre option in favor of one that retains the very essence of and complement to our own short-lived existence.

I applaud Chandos and the Audubon Society. If not for such foresighted groups and residents, Orange County will look like nothing more than a cheap copy of a fine painting, in a chrome-and-asphalt frame.
