As an ethnic Russian new to this country, I found "The Russia House" to be greatly flawed: Sean Connery is getting too old to play romantic leads.
Articles in popular magazines herald Connery's "sexiness"; and I can attest that he can be sexy to women his own age--in the 60-plus range. (Connery is 60.)
The casting of Michelle Pfeiffer, lovely as she is, was inappropriate to Connery's character. Gena Rowlands, both age-wise and physically, would have been more appropriate.
Klaus Maria Brandauer's "Russian" accent was terrible. As for the location, much of what was trying to pass for Moscow was the city of Zagorsk, a religious community north of Moscow.
