Suspect Held After $4,800 Bank Holdup

January 23, 1991

GARDEN GROVE — A San Diego man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of robbing a bank of nearly $5,000 in cash, police said.

The robbery occurred about 3:45 p.m. at a branch of the Wells Fargo Bank at 12952 Harbor Blvd.

Police said a man walked up to a teller and gave her a note demanding money. The man did not appear to be armed, police said.

After getting $4,800 in cash from the teller, the man fled. A short time later, police spotted the suspect as he was driving south on the San Diego Freeway near the Laguna Freeway, a police spokesman said.

Officers from Anaheim, Costa Mesa, Irvine, the California Highway Patrol and the Sheriff's Department assisted Garden Grove officers in following and pulling over the car.

Bobby James Hickox, 37, was being held in Orange County Jail on suspicion of robbery. His bail was set at $50,000.

Police said the stolen money was found inside Hickox's car.
