Permanent Makeup: What did No. 1 Soul Brother want to do once he was released after 26 months in prison? James Brown got himself some new eyebrows. Brown reportedly lost his own eyebrows decades ago when he was a boxer. So he had eyebrows and lower eyeliner applied by Pacific Palisades dermapigmentation artist Sheila May in a process that is similar to tattooing. Brown told May he was undergoing the permanent makeup process because "for years I've been having to draw on my eyebrows, and I'm tired of waking up every morning without them." Brown's prison term stemmed from traffic and aggravated assault charges.
