Datametrics Corp., a Chatsworth company specializing in rugged printers, plotters and keyboards for the military, said it signed contracts with two companies totaling $1.2 million that reflect its diversification into the commercial marketplace. It declined to name the two companies.
One agreement, for $680,000, is a multi-year production order from an image-processing equipment manufacturer for 5,000 units of a protocol converter, a device that will be designed to make facsimile transmissions secure by linking facsimile machines to telephones equipped with scramblers. Delivery of the converters will begin in June and the market potential for the devices is estimated at more than $8 million over the next five years, Datametrics said.
