Whittier : Water Conservation Rules Extended Beyond April

March 21, 1991

The City Council on Tuesday unanimously voted to extend Whittier's water conservation regulations past their April expiration date. The ordinance sets no mandatory conservation goal, but requires specific conservation measures. Among other things, it forbids watering lawns between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., hosing down hard surfaces and serving water in restaurants without a customer request.

The Department of Public Works is studying a more stern plan that would impose fines for water users who miss conservation targets. Council members also asked the department to examine other matters, such as whether the city should drain its ornamental pools.
