Latino Group Will Honor Professor

March 28, 1991

The San Gabriel Valley League of United Latin American Citizens will present its annual Community Service Award to Henry Cobos, music professor at East Los Angeles College in Monterey Park, for his commitment to educational advancements in the Latino community and his contributions to the arts.

The award will be presented at a dinner April 21 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, 3130 Huntington Drive, San Marino. The organization will also present scholarships to Latino students in the San Gabriel Valley.

Keynote speaker will be Leo Estrada, UCLA professor of urban studies and a census adviser who drew the county redistricting plan that led to the establishment of a predominantly Latino 1st Supervisorial District.

The cost of the dinner is $20, with proceeds going to future scholarships. For tickets or information, call Mina Navarette at (213) 974-1483 during the day or (818) 289-9815 in the evening.

* Orv Mestad has been named 1990 Citizen of the Year by the Glendora Chamber of Commerce. Mestad was named for his work with such organizations as Citrus College Foundation, Foothill Presbyterian Hospital Foundation and Glenkirk Presbyterian Church.

He will be honored at an April 25 banquet at 6 p.m. at The Grand, Grand Avenue and Foothill Boulevard. Tickets, at $32.50 each, may be obtained from the chamber, 224 N. Glendora Ave.

* Jerry Biddulph, owner of the Robbins Antique Mart in Pomona, has been named 1990 Collector of the Year by the Southern California Collector's Assn.

Biddulph's market houses 140 shops that provide space for dealers to display antiques and collectibles.

* Dr. Karl-Heinrich Vogelbach has been appointed president of the medical staff at St. Luke Medical Center in Pasadena.

Vogelbach is director of cardiology at the center.
