Monrovia : Mobile Recreation Programs

San Gabriel Valley Digest

April 04, 1991

Recreation leaders will take summer youth programs to two low-income neighborhoods this year in an attempt to bridge the gap between residents and City Hall.

The City Council voted Tuesday to scrap the city's traditional summer recreation program, which has had poor attendance over the last few years, and begin mobile programs on vacant lots in the 400 block of Monrovista Avenue and the 100 block of West Montana Street.

The 10-week programs will include playground activities, reading programs, story time, drug education, trips to the city swimming pool and pet care classes, plus neighborhood pride, first aid and mother's clubs. The two neighborhoods have been identified by Monrovia police as high-crime areas with drug and gang problems.
