According to UC officials, Santa Monica College led the state's 107 community colleges in transfers. It also sent more students to UC schools than any single unit of the California State University system.

More than half of Santa Monica College's transfers are going to UCLA, a college official said. The second most popular school was UC Berkeley.

Santa Monica College President Richard Moore said that the college's transfer rate has increased more than 65% since 1986, when the college established its Transfer Center and other programs to facilitate student transfers.
