The U-haul Family

April 28, 1991

Regarding "The Long, Strange Trip of the U-Haul Family," by Alan Prendergast, I can only conclude one of two things about the behavior within this particular family: one, that the children from the first marriage learned early that they could pretty much do whatever they wanted and not worry about the consequences, or two, they learned a lot from the best schools in the country about being doctors and lawyers and businessmen, but no one was ever there to turn them over a knee and give them a sound spanking.

Those kids can never take away or erase the fact that their father worked for his money. And his grandchildren can never honestly say that their parents earned theirs as long as they are associated with this family feud.
