* Charles A. Kaufman; Screenwriter Honored for Freud Biography

Charles A. Kaufman, 86, whose dozens of screenplays included "Freud," the critically acclaimed but poorly received film biography which starred Montgomery Clift. His script was nominated for a 1962 Academy Award. Kaufman was a onetime short story writer for the New Yorker. His scenarios included the wartime documentary "Let There Be Light," the controversial film directed by John Huston about shellshocked veterans. His other pictures included "Too Many Wives," "Cynthia," "Bridge to the Sun" and "South Seas Adventure." In Los Angeles on May 2 of pneumonia.
