Violent crime increased last year in Orange County's biggest cities. The aggregate incidence of four violent crimes--murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault--jumped 15.3% from 1989 to 1990 according to U.S. Justice Department figures. The county's seven cities with populations in excess of 100,000 recorded more than 7,000 of these crimes.
However, rates varied widely from city to city. The increases ranged from 34.2%, in Huntington Beach, to 9.1%, in Anaheim. In Irvine, however, there was a 25.3% decrease.
