Speedway motorcyclist Sam Ermolenko of Cypress was the top American scorer Sunday in the Overseas Final at London's Bradford Stadium, finishing second.
Kelvin Tatum of England won the race with 13 points, mastering a slick track on a rainy day.
The race is the second of three qualifying rounds leading to the world championship. The top nine riders advance to the semifinal round Aug. 18 in Abensberg, Germany. The World Final is scheduled for Aug. 31 in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Ermolenko scored 12 points to finish second in the 16-rider field. Ermolenko tied Billy Hamill of Monrovia after five heat races and then defeated Hamill in a four-lap runoff. Hamill was third.
Ronnie Correy of Fullerton finished sixth with nine points despite failing to score a point in his final heat race. Kelly Moran of Huntington Beach was the fourth American to advance, scoring six points.
Rick Miller of Reseda, who won the American Final at Long Beach in March, was the only local rider who failed to advance. Miller scored only four points in five races.
