SAN GABRIEL VALLEY AND THE DROUGHT : Covina May Impose 15% Cut

July 07, 1991

* Covina water customers will have to cut usage by 15% if a permanent conservation plan is approved by the City Council.

The council gave preliminary approval to the plan last week; a final vote is scheduled July 16. The measure would replace an interim plan which, among other things, limited lawn and landscape watering.

The new plan will require water users to reduce consumption by 15% compared to usage in fiscal 1989-90.

Single-family residences will be allowed base allotments of 2,400 cubic feet of water per two-month billing cycle; multiple-family residences will be allowed 1,300 cubic feet per unit, and businesses, 1,000 cubic feet.
