Hotel Deals at Destinations Near and Far

Due to the great competition for the mature traveler's vacation dollar, more and more resorts and hotels are offering discount programs. Here are some of the latest offerings:

--Condado Beach Hotel, a 245-room beachfront hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico, is giving a year-round 25% discount to those 60 years and over. In addition, this elegant resort has reduced its rates for the summer season that ends Nov. 30. Lowest-priced room is $126 per night, double occupancyl; it's available for $94.50. --Tropicana Hotel & Casino, first major Las Vegas resort hotel to pioneer discounts for mature travelers, is offering a 25% discount for available rooms. Lowest room rate for double occupancy per night is now $41.25. There is also a 25% discount at the hotel's Folies Bergere dinner or cocktail show and at its bountiful Island Buffet. To qualify, guests must be at least 60 years old or a member of AARP. --Destination Resorts, a group of spacious condominiums on Hawaii's island of Maui, is offering mature travelers at least 62 years old a 20% discount during its low season, which ends Dec. 14. Six resorts feature condominiums from studios to three bedrooms, all with full kitchens and washer and dryer. Prices with discount are $82.50 to $315 per night, double occupancy, depending on the size of the unit and view (ocean, golf course, garden). --In Toronto, the majestic Royal York hotel has a "Fabulous Fifty Five" program for those that age and over. The package includes one night's accommodation, double occupancy, a dinner in the Imperial Room with a glass of wine or sherry, music, dancing, taxes and gratuities. Cost is about $170 per couple. For an additional night under the program, a room costs about $100, with taxes of 16% extra the second night. The program is available Wednesday through Saturday nights. --South of the border, the posh 22-story Fiesta Americana Tijuana, with 422 rooms, is offering a "Golden Age 59+ Discount Program" for those over 59 years through September. The regular rate of $111 has been reduced to $59 per night, double occupancy. Senior guests also get a welcome cocktail and passes to the greyhound races and jai alai games.
