Horrors!

August 11, 1991

What is wrong with the Book Review?

A few months ago, I read a letter from one of your readers claiming, legitimately, that horror fiction had been shortchanged in your pages. He suggested that capsule horror reviews could be featured alongside mysteries in your "Bloody Sunday" column.

Instead of heeding this advice, you promptly changed the name of "Bloody Sunday" to "Criminal Pursuits" and, in your petulant ignorance, banished horror fiction from the Book Review entirely.

Now you review "They Thirst," a decade-old horror novel, in a science fiction column.

I know it's asking a lot, but do you think you could possibly make the effort to occasionally review some contemporary horror fiction?

Of course, if it's too much trouble, don't bother. I wouldn't want you to strain yourselves reviewing novels that someone might actually read.
