Uplifting Story Gives Rise to Corrections

August 18, 1991

On July 30, there was an interesting article, "When You Need a Lift" by Peter Bennett. I enjoyed the article but would like to clarify three points.

The Quinby Building (not Quimby) was not built in 1913 but in 1926. It was built by my grandfather, E.C. Quinby, and by my father, Paul W. Quinby. They had been in the ice cream, candy and restaurant business in Los Angeles since 1906. The chocolate shops were located on 5th Street, 6th Street and Broadway.

Thank you for making note of these corrections. I am sure there are still early residents of Los Angeles who will remember these locals.

PAUL W. QUINBY JR.
