A newborn girl found abandoned in a Firestone district alley Tuesday morning was in guarded but stable condition at a county medical center, and the woman suspected of being her mother was arrested, authorities said.
Nearby residents found the infant about 9:20 a.m. in an alley near 92nd Street and Parmelee Avenue, in the unincorporated Firestone district of South Los Angeles, Seriff's Sgt. Noel Lanier said. Deputies took the baby to Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center, where she was suffering from exposure, he said. Doctors indicated the full-term baby was about eight hours old when she was found, he said.
