NEW YORK — President Bush will call for the United Nations to repeal its 1975 resolution equating Zionism with racism, a Jewish group said Friday, quoting an unidentified Administration official.
The World Jewish Congress said it had been told by a senior official that Bush will make the call in his speech to the General Assembly on Monday.
The WJC said that 64 of the 72 nations that originally voted for the resolution have told the organization that they would now vote to rescind it.
Several Arab states and some other countries are still in favor of the resolution, and it is expected that they would mount an effort to prevent the issue from being revived.
Bush has angered Israeli officials by insisting that $10 billion in loan guarantees for Israel be delayed pending the start of Mideast peace talks.
