Rancho Alamitos 42, Bakersfield Arvin 11--Rancho Alamitos overcame three turnovers in the first half and cruised to the victory behind five rushing touchdowns.

Jeff Byrd carried 15 times for 89 yards and two touchdowns, and Leon Vickers added two touchdowns in 10 carries for the Vaqueros (2-0-1).

Rancho Alamitos totaled 185 yards on the ground, including Lia Togia's 10-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter.

The Vaqueros fumbled five times in the first half, losing possession three times, but Arvin (1-2) was unable to capitalize because of its own problems holding onto the ball. The Bears also fumbled five times in the first half, and two of those were recovered by Rancho Alamitos.

Both of Byrd's touchdowns came in the second half, including a 52-yard run that gave the Vaqueros a 35-11 lead with 7:53 remaining in the game.
