A septet mixing old Mingus hands and young bloods tackles rarely heard early compositions and new pieces developed from melodic snippets taped while the bassist-composer was alive. The ensemble work is strong, particularly on the rambunctious "Opus Three," but overall only George Adams' tenor and Jack Walrath's trumpet solos stand out.
