Lamenting the Lack of Salon Inspectors

December 01, 1991

"In Good Hands?" made our nail industry sound unsavory indeed. Equating the wearing of acrylic nails to heroin addiction makes this attractive beauty treatment sound degrading. What's next, a 12-step program for those who dare to have lovely nails?

The fly-by-night operators do pose unfair competition, and do need to be put out of business, but this article attempts to stigmatize the entire profession, a profession whose workers are trained, licensed and regulated by the state.

In a service profession, a job well done is a job that is appealing to the eye, and good hygiene and sanitation are a part of that. We want to make people look good and feel good.
