Column Is An Assault on Her Senses

December 01, 1991

Aaron Betsky's critique, "Westside Pavilion: Old-Style Mall Turned Into an Assault on Senses" (Times, Nov. 21) is an assault on my senses.

Architect Jon Jerde is such a major force in diverting the contemporary shopping mall from its soulless, monotonous course that Betsky's statement that he "always fails" is astonishing. Jerde's heroes and mentors include such outstanding individualists as Walt Disney and Ray Bradbury. His admirers include many such as myself who continue to be overjoyed with every visit to the festive, colorful and humane spaces he has created.
