Baldwin Park : Police Tax to Be on Ballot

December 08, 1991

The City Council voted Wednesday to place a police assessment tax on the April ballot.

The special assessment cannot be implemented unless voters approve it by a two-thirds majority, said City Manager Donald Penman. The $45 annual fee per household would be used to hire eight sworn officers, three community service officers and one records clerk.

Currently, Baldwin Park has one of the smallest police departments in the county for a city of its size. Penman said that the assessment could be raised each year but would go no higher than $57 a year.
