Ameritech to Cut 2,300 More Jobs: Ameritech announced that it plans to cut 2,300 jobs within five years, in addition to 2,000 managers who signed up for an offer to retire at the end of this year. The 2,300 new cuts will come through job consolidations, restraints on hiring and attrition, said spokesman Mike Brand. Ameritech, which employs 75,000, is the parent of telephone companies serving Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.
