Cal State Fullerton senior Donald A. Lusinsky has been named the first recipient of an arts scholarship created to honor an artist and longtime Fullerton resident.
Lusinsky was awarded the $500 Florence Millner Arnold Scholarship by the Art Alliance, a campus support group committed to excellence in the arts. The student from Buena Park has had his work accepted by the Society of Illustration in Los Angeles and published in Orange Coast Magazine.
The endowed scholarship was established last year during a 90th birthday celebration for Arnold. Known affectionately to friends and students as Flossie, Arnold taught music in North Orange County schools for 43 years. She took up painting at age 50 and has since had her works exhibited around the world.
An early member of Cal State Fullerton's Art Alliance, Arnold herself contributed to the scholarship fund created in her name.
The alliance also gave $800 awards to graduate students Karena Massengill of Long Beach and Thomas Stubbs of San Dimas, according to Gloria Schlaepher, chairwoman of the alliance's scholarship committee.
