Blood Clot Forces Player Out for Season

January 22, 1992|From Associated Press

EVANSTON, Ill. — Pat Baldwin, a sophomore who starts at point guard for Northwestern, will sit out the rest of the season because of a blood clot in his right shoulder.

Baldwin will remain hospitalized through the weekend because of the clot and will be on blood-thinning medication for three to six months.

"He cannot play while he is on medication, and our concern right now is Pat's welfare," Coach Bill Foster said Tuesday. "We're happy it was discovered and that he is being treated."

Baldwin has averaged 11.1 points per game and leads the Big Ten in steals with a 3.5 average.
