Nunn Again Facing Harassment Charge

January 22, 1992|RICH TOSCHES

Former middleweight boxing champion Michael Nunn, accused of assaulting his ex-fiancee at his Agoura Hills home last August, was scheduled to appear today in Calabasas Municipal Court to answer charges that he has harassed the woman again in violation of the conditions of his bail.

Nunn, 29, the former International Boxing Federation champion who lost the title last year, has been free on $15,000 bail since the Aug. 28 incident in which his former fiancee, Loretha Boyce, 28, claims the boxer slapped her during an argument.

Last Thursday, prosecutor Loni Peterson asked Commissioner Reva Goetz to increase Nunn's bail to $50,000 because of an alleged recent confrontation between the fighter and Boyce.

Peterson would give no details about the alleged confrontation other than to say that it was an "in-person incident."

Goetz issued a court order for Nunn, who has been training in Miami, to appear today to answer the new charge. The original charge of inflicting corporal punishment on Boyce carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail.
