THE WEEK AHEAD

BELFAST : More Troops on the Way

February 11, 1992

The first of about 600 extra British troops ordered into Northern Ireland to help quell a sudden surge in political and sectarian killings are expected to start arriving later this week, raising the strength of the British army in the province to more than 18,000.

Twenty-six civilians have already been killed this year in sectarian shootings. British Prime Minister John Major has called urgent talks today with leaders of four of Northern Ireland's political parties.
