Haitian Refugees

February 16, 1992

I agree with Jesse Jackson's column (Commentary, Feb. 9) on the Haitian question. The blatant disregard for any kind of humanity coming out of Washington is shameful. However, the part of the column I have a problem with is when Jackson says "the injustice has been greeted with silence from most of the Democratic candidates for President." Yes, but not all. I attended the Jerry Brown rally in Los Angeles on Feb. 6 and heard him discuss, with intelligence and compassion, the disgust he felt for this decision. One light in the wilderness.

Now I wonder why Jackson resorts to the negative and immature policy of cursing the darkness instead of praising the light? If he didn't know former Gov. Brown was also outraged, he should have.
