Second Childhood

February 23, 1992

"Second Childhood" brought to public attention the sad reality of abused and unwanted children. I once worked for a facility that housed 80 such children. Mine was a job in recreation, a way for these children to physically release their rage. After a year I was so emotionally drained and exhausted that I quit. I had lost my objectivity--they had become my children.

Now I have a 6-month-old daughter. As painful and heart-wrenching as my memories are, I thank God for the experiences and techniques I learned there. For I know that I have the strength and knowledge to provide the nurturing and love my child will need.
