Beverly Hills : Street Sweepers Bought

February 27, 1992

The City Council has agreed to spend almost $232,000 for two street sweepers, an expenditure the city says is necessary in part because of an increase in overnight parking.

City officials say one of the sweepers is needed to replace an aging vehicle and the other because of "the large number of streets" that have been granted overnight parking.

Daytime sweeping triples the time required, because of increased traffic and travel time, officials said.

The council, acting on a staff recommendation, rejected the lowest bid--$198,093 by Public Works Inc.--on the ground that the sweepers would not perform properly under conditions in Beverly Hills.

Instead, the city unanimously accepted a $231,780 bid submitted by Haaker Equipment Corp.
