Occidental Professor Robert J. Janosik Dies

March 05, 1992

EAGLE ROCK — Robert J. Janosik, an associate professor of politics at Occidental College, died Feb. 25. He was 45.

Janosik, who lived in Eagle Rock, joined the Occidental faculty in 1982 and specialized in American Constitutional law.

He earned a law degree at the University of Chicago Law School in 1971 and a Ph.D. in politics in 1983 from New York University, where he taught for 10 years.

He also was editor-in-chief of the Encyclopedia of the American Judicial System, a three-volume series of essays published in 1987. His bibliography of the American Constitution was published by Salem Press last year.

An Occidental spokeswoman said Janosik fell ill during the holidays and did not return to school after the New Year. A friend of Janosik's, Deborah Smith, the music librarian at Occidental, said Janosik died of AIDS.

He is survived by his parents, Stephen and Josephine Janosik of Fountain Valley; a sister, Donna, of Martha's Vineyard; a brother, Richard, of Lake Mills, Wis., and his longtime companion, Kerry Norwalk of Corona del Mar.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Occidental College's Herrick Memorial Chapel and Interfaith Center.
