As Marathon Grows Up, Burke Should Sit Down

March 07, 1992

Was that the L.A. Marathon or the Bill Burke Memorial Parade? Ours must be the only world-class marathon where the organizer gets to drive the race, bumper-locked on the leader, blocking his view of any other runners coming up behind him. Good thing John Treacy opened an early lead on the pack, otherwise trying to keep Burke in front of the camera the whole race could have cost some runners their lives.
