Baldwin Park : City to Stay in Consortium

March 08, 1992

The City Council has voted 3 to 1 to remain in a San Gabriel Valley city-business consortium, despite Mayor Bette L. Lowes' contention that the group is not effective.

Lowes complained that the San Gabriel Valley Commerce and Cities Consortium, formed in August, 1990, has failed to attract enough business members and city participants. Eleven cities, including Baldwin Park, are involved in the effort to promote the area economically.

Councilman Martin Gallegos urged that the city pay the $7,500 fee to remain involved in the consortium because membership will help Baldwin Park's economic outlook. Council members Bobbie Izell and Julia S. McNeill agreed, but Lowes voted against the idea at the meeting on Wednesday. Councilman Herschel Keyser was absent.
