Daniel Nelson Polsby, a senior at Polytechnic School in Pasadena, has won a $40,000 Morehead Award to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The scholarship will pay all expenses for four years of undergraduate study at the university and for a four-part summer enrichment program focusing on outdoor leadership, public service, private enterprise and travel abroad.

Polsby, of Pasadena, is co-captain of the varsity tennis team, president of the senior class and an Eagle Scout.

Criteria for the award include academic achievement, leadership, character and physical vigor. The program was begun in 1951 by the late John Motley Morehead, an 1891 graduate of the university.
