Judge Karlin Fights Back

March 08, 1992

In response to "Candidate Karlin Lashes Out at Criticism Over Sentence," Feb. 27:

Some analysts believe that Judge Karlin has isolated the black community. I believe she has done a little better than that. She has isolated all of the parents of children in this city. None of us could be sure that our child would not hit back, none of us could be sure that our child would turn and walk away; but if the child walked away and got shot in the back of the head, no parent could be sure justice would be served with Judge Karlin "on the bench, doing her thing." A $500 fine is not justice, and I don't need to know Judge Karlin to know that.
