City of Industry : Council Election Canceled

March 22, 1992

The City Council election scheduled for April 14 has been canceled because no one challenged the two incumbents who are running for reelection, City Clerk Philip L. Iriarte said.

Only three times since the city of about 600 residents incorporated in 1957 has a City Council member faced opposition in a municipal race. This year, Councilman Dean Winn and Mayor John Ferrero, the only mayor since the city was founded, are running unopposed.

For the most part, council members are appointed by fellow members when openings occur. In December, Patrick Perez resigned his council post and was replaced by Lawrence Mayo, who was appointed.

A schoolteacher challenged the three incumbents in 1986 and was soundly defeated.
