The Thousand Oaks City Council tonight is scheduled to consider offers from two companies to construct the steel foundation for the planned civic arts center at the former Jungleland site.

Construction of the foundation represents the start of major work on the project.

The lowest bid submitted came from Maya Steel Fabrications Inc. of Gardena.

It submitted a $3.4-million bid to construct steel structural foundations within 336 days, according to a city staff report.

W & W Steel Co. of Oklahoma City, Okla., submitted a higher bid of $4.5 million to perform the same work.

The job entails fabricating and erecting the structural steel foundations of the city's civic arts center, a $63.8-million development that includes a new city hall, performing arts auditorium and parking structure at Conejo School Road and Thousand Oaks Boulevard.
