New Haitian Law Shuffles Government

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — The military-backed government has enacted a law that would replace Haiti's interim president and prime minister with a single executive, officials said Saturday.

Parliament is reorganizing the government but making no explicit provisions for the return of ousted President Jean-Bertrand Aristide. The military opposes his reinstatement.

An opposition politician said Saturday that there will be no peace without the return of Aristide, Haiti's first freely elected president. Student groups have called for protests on Monday.
