ICE-T AND SISTER SOULJAH : Souljah Misreads America

June 20, 1992

Sister Souljah claims that America has a problem with African-Americans who take a strong stand for control over their lives (" 'I Do Not Advocate . . . Murdering,' " June 17). This is absolutely wrong.

America has a problem with people who use a popular musical medium to convey messages that promote violence against certain races or encourage the murder of police officers.

Rappers must take responsibility for their repellent lyrics and the resulting revulsion felt by many who hear them. Their denial of this connection makes ever elusive the solutions to the problems they allegedly seek to solve.
