Abuse Survivor Is Her 'Brave Baby Sister'

June 21, 1992

It is obvious that the Catholic Church is more interested in protecting the reputation of the church and its priests than in helping its parishioners.

Not only should Father Porter have been removed as a priest when his abuses first became known, but it was the duty of the church to hand him over to the authorities for prosecution instead of just giving him a slap on the wrist by sending him to some Catholic rest center.

Failure of the church to act when it became aware of Father Porter's abuses may have resulted in tens of lives being ruined or severely disrupted. The church's primary responsibility should have been to the victims, not to the perpetrator of these unspeakable crimes.
