Dempsey to Join UCLA Basketball Team

Kevin Dempsey, a 6-foot-6 forward from San Jose, has accepted an offer of financial aid from the UCLA basketball team, Coach Jim Harrick announced Wednesday.

Dempsey signed with Arizona during the fall of 1990, before his senior season at Santa Teresa High in San Jose, after also making recruiting trips to Nevada Las Vegas and Arizona State.

But he was not admitted to Arizona. He enrolled last fall as a part-time student at West Valley College in Saratoga, Calif., with the understanding that he would be admitted to UCLA if he met grade requirements.

Dempsey, who averaged 26.4 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists as a senior at Santa Teresa, retains four years of eligibility.
