Micropolis Corp. Posts Sharp Earnings Increase

July 14, 1992

Micropolis Corp., a Chatsworth maker of computer disk drives, reported earnings of $5.17 million for its fiscal second quarter, sharply higher than its year-earlier profit of $253,000.

Micropolis said sales for the quarter ended June 26 increased 21%, to $104.3 million from $86.4 million a year earlier.

The company, which has had a mixed performance in recent years, attributed the gains to higher orders and increased operating efficiency. Micropolis said it had a backlog of $82.5 million as of June 26, compared with $70.8 million at the end of the previous quarter.

For the first half of its fiscal year, Micropolis earned $7.93 million, compared with $6.38 million a year earlier, and its six-month sales climbed to $202.6 million from $190.0 million.
